main image Railway viaduct and tunnel, on the Edinburgh to Perth route, Glenfarg, Perthshire
This is the principal bridge – crossing both road and river – and one of two tunnels near the head of Glenfarg, where the line breaks through the Ochil Hills.

The line opened in 1890, as part of the North British Railway's new Edinburgh to Perth route via the Forth Bridge. It closed in the 1960s and has now been partly obliterated by the M90.

Other major viaducts include: Leaderfoot and Roxburgh, Roxburghshire; Ballochmyle, Ayrshire; Almond, mid-West Lothian and Glenfinnan, Inverness-shire, as well as the approach works to the Forth and Tay Bridges. Major tunnels outwith cities include: Winchburgh, West Lothian; Penmanshiel, Berwickshire; Sandy Edge, Roxburghshire and Falkirk, Stirlingshire.
