main image Railway station, West Calder, Midlothian
West Calder station was on the Caledonian Railway's Edinburgh (Princes Street) to Glasgow (Central) line. This photograph dates from c. 1910.

The principal features are the platforms, a pedestrian bridge linking them, the main station building (right) and a smaller building housing a waiting room (left).

This section of line opened in 1869. Prior to that, Caledonian trains between the two cities had had to take a long detour via Carstairs Junction, Lanarkshire.
