Scotland is well-endowed with sand and gravel resources, thanks to alluvial deposits and, more significantly, those left by glaciation.
As deposits are superficial, extraction has fewer long-term consequences for the landscape than stone quarrying.
The demand for this material is driven by their use in concrete, as aggregates in construction. |
