main image Corn exchange, Haddington, East Lothian
Corn exchanges were situated in burghs and were the places where grain was sold.

This one, in Haddington, dates from 1854. In earlier times, it occupied a site where the west end of the Town House now stands, at the junction of High Street and Market Street.

Corn exchanges, when not in use as such, became venues for kirns (dances), jumble sales and other social events.
