In recent years, there has been a marked increase in direct marketing by farmers, especially those with farms close to urban populations.

Factors behind this include the prospect of better margins for producers and a preference amongst many consumers for produce which has a known provenance.

This farm is situated off the A90 and the eastern approaches to Queensferry – a well-established destination for Sunday outings. It could be seen, therefore, as another aspect of the partial merging of shopping and leisure.
