Road
improvements , Farr, Sutherland |
Many of the 'A' class roads in the Highlands and Islands were built in the early 19th century as single track roads with passing places. Small populations meant that local authorities had limited resources for large infrastructural developments.
Access to European Commission regional development funding has allowed sparsely populated areas such as this to carry out important improvements in infrastructure, of a kind which might help stave depopulation.
This section of the A836 north Sutherland road, near Farr, was rebuilt with the assistance of European Commission funds. |
