Bridge on General Wade's road, Corrieyairack |
A simple, single arch bridge on the Wade road over the Corrieyairack Pass. It was built in 1731 as part of a new road linking Dalwinnie to Fort Augustus, Inverness-shire.
After the 1715 Jacobite rebellion, roads were built by the Government as an effort to pacify the Highlands.
Most have now been superceded by more recent alignments, though their course can often still be followed on foot. The Corrieyairack Pass, with its ascending zig-zags, is especially impressive. |
