Stone
circle, Stenness, Orkney |
Excavations in 1973 revealed a central setting of stones, pottery,
cremated bone and charcoal – dated to the early 3rd Millenium
BC.
Bones found in the ditch included domestic ox, sheep as well as
wolves and dog.
The circle has a ditch with an extenal bank and two entrances.
It has been suggested that 20,000 hours of work were involved in
preparing these.
