Cottages at Shiskine, Arran, Bute |
This row of cottages has a thatched roof, covered in ropes which are weighted with stones. The roof apex appears to be turfed. The roof on the right has collapsed. The large heap on the left is a peat stack, cut and dried at a local moss.
Though small, the houses show some signs of Improvement; good sized windows, square chimney stacks and a measure of cleanliness in their lime-washed walls. |
