Croft house and steading, Drim-Sidinish, North Uist, Western Isles |
This is a modified form of blackhouse; it has windows – blackhouses have none.
It has a linear layout, with house and outbuildings in line. The walls are very thick. A skin of stonework, within and without, carries the roof beams and a thatched roof on its inner edge. |
