Ironstone mine, the Lecht, Banffshire |
This building dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. It may have housed ore crushing machinery and shows signs of having had a water wheel of 7.32m diameter.
This is a small and isolated site. More significant in historical terms were the Blackband iron ore deposits in west-central Scotland, which were extracted and smelted there. |
