main image Ironstone mine, the Lecht, Banffshire
This building dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. It may have housed ore crushing machinery and shows signs of having had a water wheel of 7.32m diameter.

This is a small and isolated site. More significant in historical terms were the Blackband iron ore deposits in west-central Scotland, which were extracted and smelted there.
