Petro-chemical plant, Mossmorran, Cowdenbeath, Fife |
This petro-chemical plant was established in 1985. The plant splits natural gas liquids – brought in by sea and pipeline – into its component substances.
Some of the separated materials are converted into other substances. The products are sent out by pipeline to Braefoot Bay, near Aberdour, and to petro-chemical works at Grangemouth, Stirlingshire.
Further expansion followed but although huge the site created comparatively few new jobs in an area of high unemployment. The same could be said of the on-shore component of North Sea oil. |
