Wrought iron gate and fence, Dalmeny House, West Lothian |
The use of iron in fence building was particularly common in the 19th century, when it featured strongly in parks and grounds.
Wrought iron was malleable and could be readily assembled. It looked more refined and was less visually intrusive than either hedges or dykes. |
