Laying a hedge in Roxburgh Village, Scottish Borders |
The 'laid' portion of a hedge is secured by a 'binder', that is several branches of ash, hazel or willow woven round and between the upright stakes for rigidity.
This photograph was taken by Werner Kissling (1895-1988) in 1961. He contributed a remarkable photographic record to our knowledge of the country. |
