Trading is one of the most important ways to make money in medieval Scotland. Goods are sold for silver and gold or exchanged for luxuries from overseas.

Berwick is an excellent place to trade. The king, David I, has made it a 'royal' burgh. Burgesses living in this type of town are allowed to sell goods at the local market and also travel overseas. The luxuries you can buy there are sold at high prices on market day.
