Railway warehouse, Gorebridge, Midlothian |
This three-storey granary was close to a corn mill complex. It was situated immediately adjacent to the Edinburgh and Hawick branch of the North British Railway, and may have been built for that company. This view shows the granary from the south west.
Railway provision of grain storage was not uncommon in the 1840s and '50s. Another example on the North British Railway was at Duns. There were others at Eassie, Angus and Blairgowrie. One at Cupar, Fife has been converted into offices. |
