Planned village, Letham, Fife |
Originally named Nesbitfield, the village developed in the 18th and 19th centuries as a trades centre for the surrounding agricultural community.
The single-storey cottages are typical of rural Scotland, housing loom shops and other workshops, besides domestic accommodation.
Hand-loom weaving was an important component in village development up until the 1830s – linen in east-central Scotland, cotton in west-central Scotland and wool elsewhere. |
