Fly-tipping, Winchburgh, West Lothian |
Though dominated by recent fly-tipping and a burnt out car, this image comprises elements of landscape spanning six centuries.
Niddry Castle (left, distance) dates from the 15th century and was restored in the late 20th century. The underlying field pattern is of the late 18th century. The oil shale is from the 19th to 20th centuries and the proposed golf development from the 21st century.
In contemporary terms, the dominant characteristic is a countryside at the mercy of the urban majority. |
