Former pheasantry, Kersewell estate, Carnwath, Lanarkshire |
This unusual octagonal building, in stone rubble and slate, was formerly used as a pheasantry.
The building has entrances at upper and lower levels. Its purpose may have been to house new stocks of pheasants prior to their release into the wild.
Pheasants were not a native species, but have been encouraged because of their attrcation for shooting. The shooting season extends from February to September inclusive. |
