Consumption dyke, Kingswells, Aberdeenshire |
One of the tasks involved in agricultural Improvement was the removal of stones from excessively stoney ground.
In this case the stones have been put to good use by building them into a wall or consumption dyke.
The stoniness of many Scottish soils is the product of glaciation, which eroded, transported and deposited huge volumes of material in the last Ice Age. |
