Calor gas depot, Oban, Argyll |
Country towns often act as distribution centres for extensive rural hinterlands. Oban is the mainland terminal for a number of Hebridean ferries, it therefore has a particularly wide hinterland.
The gradual conversion to electricity in the Highlands and Islands left an ongoing market for bottled gas fuels. They were sold in units, small enough to transport to the most remote and least accessible sites. |
