Slacks Tower or Peel house, Southdean, Roxburghshire, Scottish Borders
Peel houses were 16th century defensive dwellings. Slacks peel house closely resembles its neighbour at Mervinslaw, just two miles to the north east. The house stands among ruined enclosures and buildings, some of which are associated with the peel.

Peel houses are found on both sides of the border between Scotland and England. They reflect the unstable conditions in the area before the Unions of 1603 and 1707. This part of the Border – the 'Middle Marches' – was particularly troubled.
