The farm buildings of the late-20th century were radically different in both scale and materials from those of earlier times.

The use of pre-fabricated elements in metal, concrete and other materials allowed buildings to be constructed rapidly, on a large scale and with wide internal clearances.

Whilst stark in their appearance, buildings such as these are much better fitted to the large scale, highly mechanised practices of modern farming.
