Home And Away:
Content and Introduction

Scotland played in the first ever football international, in 1872, against the ‘Auld Enemy’ themselves:
England. Scotland has played in eight World Cup finals in total since their first appearance in the competition in 1954. With the loss of the annual Scotland v England fixture, appearing in the World Cup, and to a lesser extent European Championships, is now seen as the prime aim for the Scottish international team. As the national team have yet to progress to the second stage of any of the ten international tournaments in which they have participated, each new tournament offers the tantalising prospect of the team achieving a place in Scottish footballing history.

However, Scotland still plays a part in the international game without having any players involved. The most memorable was the hosting of the 1960 European Champions Cup final at Hampden Park.
