Improved farm steading, Drunsleed, Fordoun, Kincardineshire |
This early-19th century engraving shows the Improved farm steading of Drumsleed. The farmhouse faces away from the farm buildings, towards its walled garden. Cottages for farm workers are positioned away from the farmhouse, near to the road.
A group of un-threshed ricks of grain stand behind the long building which housed the barn and the granary with cart bays beneath it.
In some prosperous, east of Scotland districts the farmhouse was separated further from the farm buildings and built on an even larger scale. |
