The Society of the Sacred Heart, an enclosed religious order established a convent and Catholic Teacher Training College in the building and Craiglockhart entered another phase in its history. The main building was added to over the years and the Chapel opened in 1933. The Chapel, was built by Robert Carmichael, son of Henry Carmichael, Head Gardener of the Hydropathic. In 1965 a six-storey hall of residence was added along with a new lecture block, hall and gymnasium. The site was renamed Craiglockhart College of Education and remained in this role for the next thirty years, until 1986 when Napier College of Commerce and Technology, now known as Napier University, bought the property.
