While
spending time at Craiglockhart War Hospital
in Edinburgh, Sassoon would introduce Graves to another poet, Wilfred Owen,
and Graves soon recognised the talent of the young Owen. Following the war
Graves entered the University of Oxford and in 1926 took up a post at the
University of Cairo. In 1929 he moved to Spain but was forced to leave in
1936 due to the civil war. In 1961 he was made Professor of Poetry at the
University of Oxford, a post he held until 1966. He died in Majorca on 7 December
1985.
