This cutting from the Scotsman newspaper of 25 February 1903 reprints part of a letter of 10 January 1903 to W B Blaikie, a council member of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, from William S Bruce in Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, four days after the arrival there of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition.
The recipient evidently felt that the writer's appeal for funds to enable his expedition to carry out a second year's work in the Antarctic merited a wider audience than merely the members of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.
In the event, sufficient funds were forthcoming and the expedition was able to spend a second year in the polar regions.
