Having been refused financial support from the British government, William S Bruce, unlike promoters of other contemporary polar expeditions, had to raise private funding for his 1902-1904 Scottish National Antarctic Expedition.

Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, such as the wealthy Coats family of Paisley who between them contributed £30,000, sufficient funds were eventually found for the curtailed plan outlined in Doc-006.

Bruce planned a second Scottish National Antarctic Expedition to depart around 1 May 1911, and the list shown here records contributions ranging from 5/- (25p) to £125 towards that enterprise. However, the plans did not come to fruition and the funds were used to support the Scottish Oceanographical Laboratory, which housed the specimens from the 1902-1904 expedition.
