Having been refused financial support from the British government, William S Bruce, unlike promoters of other contemporary polar expeditions, had to raise private funding for his 1902-1904 Scottish National Antarctic Expedition.

Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, such as the wealthy Coats family of Paisley who between them contributed 30,000, sufficient funds were eventually found for the curtailed plan outlined in Doc-006.

Bruce planned a second Scottish National Antarctic Expedition to depart around 1 May 1911, and the list shown here records contributions ranging from 5/- (25p) to 125 towards that enterprise. However, the plans did not come to fruition and the funds were used to support the Scottish Oceanographical Laboratory, which housed the specimens from the 1902-1904 expedition.
