The Antarctic

Scottish National Antarctic Expedition report leaflet

As the principal reason for William S Bruce's 1902-1904 Scottish National Antarctic Expedition had been the advancement of scientific knowledge of the southern polar regions, an important part of his project was the subsequent dissemination of the scientific results.

This was carried out under the aegis of the Scottish Oceanographic Laboratory (founded by Bruce) and involved the raising of yet more funds to meet the substantial costs of printing and publication. The progress of this extended from 1907 to 1920, but was never completed, as Volume One (the general introduction) did not appear.

This picture shows a flyer featuring Volume Three (1912), which incorporated the botany results, and also advertising the earlier Volume Two (physics) and Volumes Four and Five (zoology).
