In addition to William S Bruce (organiser and leader) and Thomas Robertson (ship's captain), the scientific staff of the 1902-1904 Scottish National Antarctic Expedition on the Scotia comprised Robert N Rudmose Brown (botanist), Robert C Mossman (meteorologist), David W Wilton (zoologist), John H Harvey Pirie (geologist and medical officer), William A Cuthbertson (artist) and Alastair Ross (taxidermist).
In this montage of portraits we see the six senior members, clockwise from top left: Wilton, Bruce, Mossman, Rudmose Brown, Robertson and Harvey Pirie.
After their return to Scotland, in recognition of their outstanding achievements, Bruce was awarded the gold medal, Robertson and Mossman the silver medal, and each of the others the bronze medal of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.
