Letter of invitation to Jean Armour Burns' funeral, 1834

This letter is from Robert Burns' eldest son, Robert, inviting the recipient to the funeral of his mother, Jean Armour Burns on the 28 March 1834. She is to be interred in Burns Mausoleum in St Michael's Churchyard, Dumfries.

Jean Armour was the daughter of a master mason of Mauchline. She first met Robert Burns at Mauchline in 1784, after his family had settled at Mossgiel, near to the town. The actual date of their marriage is not known.

They had nine children, only three of whom survived into adulthood. After Robert Burns' death in 1796, Jean continued to live in the family home in Burns Street, Dumfries. She remained there until her own death on 26 March 1834.
