Welcome

obert Burns, regarded as Scotland's greatest poet and songwriter, died in 1796, aged 37. Renowned for his original compositions, he was also an energetic collector and refiner of existing Scots works. In his personal life, he led - as much as he could within the financial and social constraints of the late 18th century – his own life. His poetic abilities ensured Burns became a famous man in his own lifetime. Over the two hundred years since his death his fame has increased to a point where he is seen as one of the most famous of Scots.
