Fairs were held on specified days of the year in specific locations.

In addition to trading goods in rural areas, fairs were the occasion for hiring farm workers on a six-month term.

Aikey Fair, shown here c. 1900, was said to commemorate the overthrow of the Comyns by Edward Bruce.
