Torrylin image

The remains of a much plundered chambered cairn, not far from the south coast of the Isle of Arran. The surviving chamber, 6.7m long and about 1.2m wide, is aligned from NNW to SSE.
The chamber was divided by upright slabs into four compartments.
Remains of at least ten adults and two children together with a bowl and a flint knife were found in the third and fourth compartments.
In 1864 another nearby cairn called Torrylin Water was demolished. Several urns were found but dissolved in dust.
