STONE SETTING
Steinacleit image

This enigmatic monument in Lewis (Western Isles) has been described as an eccentric stone circle, a denuded chambered cairn or, more recently, as a domestic settlement.
The main feature is a circular structure delimited by a kerb of eleven large stones, 15.8m in diameter (in the photo). It lies to the side of an oval enclosure bounded by a low wall, on a false crest above a small loch. The enclosure measures 82m x 56m. The site is unexcavated and its purpose is still unknown.
About 170m to the north is the Clach Stei Lin standing stone and to the west is the impressive Clach an Trushal monolith.
