KERBED
CAIRN, STONE CIRCLE, STANDING STONES |
This
kerbed cairn, 4.8m in diameter, was once probably surrounded by 12 stones
(now only four of them survive). One of the kerb stones is decorated with
cupmarks in its inner face. In the background of the photo is the 1.8m high
standing stone.
A little to the west there are another standing stone 2m high, which has
now fallen, and a collapsed stone circle 7.5m in diameter.
The site was excavated in 1939 and charcoal, cremated bone and quartz fragments
were found. |
