Beacharra image

This impressive monolith stands high on a hill above the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula. It is 5m high and from 0.8m (at the base) to 1.4m broad.
As visible in the photo, its top has an irregular profile.
A few metres to the east there are the remains of a chambered cairn.
According to Alexander Thom this standing stone was a 1st millennium BC lunar observatory.
