RECUMBENT STONE CIRCLE
Balquhain image

Only six stones out of a probable 12 originals set in a semi-circle still stand in a field on a gentle slope. The massive recumbent is of white-grained granite and is 3.8m long. On its top there is a small hollow.
The east prostrate flanker bears four cupmarks. It is of whinstone, while the other circle stones are of grey granite or red quartzite. The stone to the west of the upright flanker bears 25 very clear cupmarks.
To the south of the circle there is a remarkable 3.1m high monolith of gleaming white quartz (the tallest stone near the centre of the photo).
