Aikey Brae image

A fine recumbent stone circle situated on a hilltop, partly surrounded by a conifer plantation. Nine of the original ten stones plus the recumbent survive.
The eastern pillars and the west flanker are fallen. Most of the stones are of granite, apart from the whinstone recumbent. The latter is a huge stone, 4.6m long and 21 tons in weight.
The stones have been erected on a low elliptical stoney bank, 1.5m wide and 0.75m high. Such banks are a feature typical of recumbent stone circles in the Buchan area.
