Phoebe of Cenchrea Stained Glass Window - SMC253
Located in the north clerestory of the choir is a stained glass depiction of Phoebe of Cenchrea. She is shown as a young maiden with a linen scroll bearing the reference to Romans 16:1
Romans 16:1 states that Paul commended Phoebe as a servant of the church and asked recipients of his epistle to receive her in a way worthy of the saints.
Some versions of the bible describe Phoebe as a deacon, or deaconess. It is debated whether she actually held this church office.
