Ringing the Bells - SMC230

This is a recording of the bells of St Magnus Cathedral being rung. The style of bell ringing is distinctly Scandinavian and this is the only place in Scotland where bells are rung like this.

The bells are not rung by the method of a wheel and crank. Instead the bell rope is attached to the tongue of the bell.

St Magnus Cathedral has three bells. The largest bell was recast in Amsterdam in 1682 after the spire collapsed.
