Colin Watson's Green Man - SMC223

This is a stone carving by Colin Watson, the St Magnus Cathedral Stone Mason. It has been carved out of a piece of scrap stone and is an experiment.

Colin decided to carve the piece after a discussion with friends about "Green Men". Traditionally Green Men are meant to be the personification of nature and are only carved as male. Colin has decided to carve both a male and a female face.

The foliage sprouting from the male's mouth curls around and forms the head band for the female. The bodies, though not carved yet, will probably intertwine and merge as one.
