Chair Mending - SMC217
Chair mending is one of the jobs that has to be done by the St Magnus Cathedral Stone Mason. The Stone Mason is responsible for the maintenance of the building.
The wood and glue in the chairs can dry out in the heat of the building. If the chairs warp and break they have to be repaired. General wear and tear causes the seats to fray. When this happens a new seat must be made from sea grass.
Glueing the chairs when they warp takes only twenty minutes but winding a new seat can take up to four hours.
