The Lectern - SMC197

This lectern can be found in the choir of St Magnus Cathedral next to the south east pier of the crossing. It was designed by George Mackie Watson and installed in the 1920s.

The lectern is carved from Scottish Oak and two angels bearing shields adorn it. Carved onto the shields are the Greek letters alpha and omega. The lectern also has the Latin phrase "nominus verbum dedit" carved onto the front.

A lectern is a stand used to hold the bible while reading from it. There is another ornately carved lectern in the presbytery of the Cathedral.
