"Kirkwall in the Orkneys" by Stanley Cursiter - SMC185


This painting is a view of St Magnus Cathedral from the Peerie Sea. It is entitled "Kirkwall in the Orkneys" and was painted by Stanley Cursiter.

Stanley Cursiter, 1887-1976, is perhaps Orkney's most famous artist. He was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and was the Queen's Painter and Limner for Scotland. He painted many pictures of St Magnus Cathedral.

The painting is owned by Tankerness House Museum and is on display in the entrance foyer of Kirkwall Town Hall.
