Peter Wick - SMC166


This is Peter Wick, caretaker of St Magnus Cathedral from 1892 until his death in 1902. He was responsible for looking after the building and ringing the curfew bell.

He was given responsibility to look after the part of the Cathedral under the control of the Town Council and to prevent people carving their initials on the building.

Mr Wick also had the responsibility of admitting people to the building and collecting the entry fees of sixpence per person, or threepence per person if in groups. Residents of Kirkwall were given free admission.
