Bishop's
Palace round tower - SMC164
This
is the round tower of the Bishop's Palace in Kirkwall, Orkney.
The tower was built when Bishop Reid rebuilt the palace in
the mid-sixteenth century.
Though the exterior of the tower is round, the internal rooms
were rectangular. A spiral staircase is contained within the
wall. The parapet would originally have been roofed with a
square
Bishop of Orkney from 1541-1558, Robert Reid was a successful
statesmen and counsellor of King James V.
