Stanley
Cursiter's recollection of the John Rae memorial - SMC159
This
is a recording of a childhood recollection of St Magnus Cathedral
by Stanley Cursiter. It tells of when he first saw the Dr
John Rae memorial.
Stanley Cursiter was a native of Kirkwall and is probably
Orkney's most famous artist. He designed the St Rognvald Chapel
in St Magnus Cathedral and used theCathedral as a subject
for many of his works.
This tale was recorded by Ernest Walker Marwick and can be
found in the Orkney Sound Archive.
