Stanley Cursiter's recollection of the John Rae memorial - SMC159


This is a recording of a childhood recollection of St Magnus Cathedral by Stanley Cursiter. It tells of when he first saw the Dr John Rae memorial.

Stanley Cursiter was a native of Kirkwall and is probably Orkney's most famous artist. He designed the St Rognvald Chapel in St Magnus Cathedral and used theCathedral as a subject for many of his works.

This tale was recorded by Ernest Walker Marwick and can be found in the Orkney Sound Archive.
