Stanley Cursiter's eerie tale - SMC158

This is a recording of Stanley Cursiter's recollections of St Magnus Cathedral from when he was a boy. It tells of an eerie visit to help ring the curfew bell when he was a boy.

Stanley Cursiter was born in Kirkwall and is one of Orkney's most famous painters. He was the Queen's Painter and Limner for Scotland and also designed the St Rognvald Chapel in St Magnus Cathedral.

This recording was taken from the Ernest Walker Marwick collection in the Orkney Sound Archive. Marwick was, amongst other things, a local broadcaster.
